how do I save a document in rtf format

can someone please tell me how to save a document to rtf format? I am
submitting a paper for school and they wanted in rtf format. When I click on
save as, this is not an option that comes up on my computer. thanks. Jane
Farmer
 
Have you really scrolled through all the options on the 'Save as type'
dropdown? Some file types are options when you install Word, but I thought
RTF was always available.
 
As Jezebel says this filter should have been installed by default. It is
called
Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 RTF Converter in Word 2003. It may have been called
Rich Text Format in older versions. If it doesn't appear in the list you can
re-run Office setup from Windows Control panel Add or Remove programs and
add it.
