How do I run Solver in PowerPoint embedded Excel worksheet?

I copied an Excel worksheet and pasted special as Excel Worksheet Object into
a powerpoint presentation. I need the presentation user to use the embedded
worksheet and solver inside the presentation.

I have made sure that Solver add-in is installed but still Excel crashes
when I attempt to do this.

Is this possible to do? If so, how? Thank you.

You don't indicate what version of the software you used. I cannot
replicate the problem in 2007 -- but do run into another problem under a
specific circumstance.

The set up was an embedded Excel file in a PP file. The Excel object in
the PP file had the action setting to 'open on click.'

So, I ran the PP slideshow and clicked on the Excel range to open Excel.
Then, I could run Solver, find the new optimum and close and exit back
to PP. This worked fine.

The part that caused problems was when I tried to generate the
additional reports Solver creates as an option. Then, when I clicked on
any worksheet tab other than the currently active sheet, Excel closed
the workbook. When subsequently I closed XL and returned to PP the
newly created sheet was visible inside PP.
