How do I reuse slides and keep formatting?

Randy

I just installed Office Standard with Powerpoint 2007. I figured out how to
insert slides from other files and keep formatting source. However, this
morning, when I reuse files and click keep source formatting, it does not
keep source formatting but uses the last slide format. If i close out the
presentation and then insert a new slide keeping formatting source it works.
Am I going to have to keep opening a closing the file to accomplish what I
want? Never had this problem with XP. Anyone out here know more than the
idiots at Microsoft?

Rather than blame MS, I would start by looking at your system and install as
this function works just fine all of my installs of Office 2007 and several
1000 others.
- What Service Pack do you have installed? It really should not matter for
this function, but SP2 does quite a bit of updates, so lets make certain you
are up to date (check here for info on checking what SP is installed:
http://pptblog.tlccreative.com/index.php/2009/06/03/even-easier-how-do-you-know-if-sp2-is-in)
- How are you inserting new the slides?
- If with 'Reuse Slides' is the 'keep source formatting' option checked?
- If pasting in are you activating keep source formatting with the smart
tag dialog?
- What OS are you running - how many other applications are running
simultaneously - how much system memory and video memory does PowerPoint
have to work with?
- Are all presentations on the local hard drive or accessed over a network?

All of these could be factors in why PowerPoint is not doing what is
expected.
