How do I retain PDF quality when inserting object?

I have a bunch of PDF figures that need to be inserted into Word so I can add
captions. When I try to insert a PDF document into Word, there is always a
loss of resolution. So if I insert a PDF figure that has annotations, the
annotations get blurred to the point they are not readable. I have played
around with the object size, and that doesn't help. Is there a way to insert
a PDF without a loss of resolution/quality?

You get the loss of resolution because the pdf is not a graphic like a jpeg.
All you are doing is inserting a link to a pdf. It gives you a low resolution
screen preview so you can see it, and this is what you are printing. You or
the person who gave you the pdfs will probably need to convert your pdfs to
graphics.
