How do I remove punctuation in outlook?

Windows version: XP SP2
AVG version 7.1.361 & virus db version 267.12.4/146
Email Client: MS Outlook 2003 SP2

After a week or so of downloading AVG Free, extra punctuation started
appearing in my MS Outlook outgoing messages. For example, apostrophes were
replaced by this symbol ^¦, ? appeared in between paragraphs, ^K replaced
ellipsis.

Has anyone had conflicting punctuation issues like mine in MS Outlook 2003?
Please reply with any suggestions to fix this problem!
