How do I recieve messgaes instantly?

Is there a way to automatically recieve messages instantly? I have it set to
send/recieve every 1 minutes but I would like to get my messages in my inbox
as soon as they hit the e-mail server.

if you are on POP email, then your ISP may well consider 1 minute intervals
to be spamming, I know mine does.

POP clients are polling clients. Polling by its very nature is periodic,
not constant. Moreover, one minute is way too short a polling interval. 10
minutes is the recommended minimum.

A one-minute interval is far, FAR too short. You probably haven't even
ended the first mail session when the second one begins and fouls up the
first mail session. Five minutes should be the minimum. Ten minutes is
more polite. After all, you are not getting, on average, one e-mail per
minute so you are being rude by unnecessarily taxing your mail server's
resources.

If you want immediate gratification because you cannot manage to look down
in the tray area for an icon that notifies you that there are new messages
and also listen for the sound file that plays when a new message arrives,
then define a rule that pops up a window atop whatever you are doing to
alert you to the new message.
