How do I put IMAP account settings so I can send email?

I have aol as my ISP, but want to use Outlook to send and recieve email. I
have set the imap adress as imap.au.aol.com, and the smtp as smtp.au.aol.com.
Outlook will automatically recieve now, but I can't send anything - the error
message reads:

Task 'Des Personal - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send
the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties.
The server responded: 556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND
AUTH.'

Can you tell me what is wrong please?
