How do I purge a program from Win XP?

I would like to remove all traces and remnants of a program in Windows XP.

Is there any software I can use to do so? I'd like it to clean out the
files, registry, any hidden files, etc. - a clean sweep.

FYI, the program is Firefox this time. It won't allow me into my Yahoo
mail and gives an error -8750 telling me that it can't encryptsoemthing
or other to get into 'login.yahoo.com.

I have used the Add/Remove facility then reinstalled, but it's clear
that this does not do a clean sweep as the new installation still has
all my old bookmarks and - still - won't get to yahoo mail.

TIA.

Go to the documents and settings folder in your c: drive and open each
user. In the application data folder look for the mozilla folder and
delete it. That will remove all bookmarks and other firefox info. Hope
this helps.

Did that but everything came back just like before on a re-install.

I'm not a Windows guy these days, but I remember in the old days there
was a program (Symantec I think) that would totally clean out every
vestige of a program, including registry entries.

Is anything like that available for Windows XP?

Thanks.

I believe you're talking about Norton (Symantec) "CleanSweep" which is probably why you said

"I'd like it to clean out the files, registry, any hidden files, etc. - a clean sweep."

Anyway, that's long gone; it can't even be found on their site anymore. There are plenty of programs that do this sort of thing but
there's definitely some targeted at FireFox. Just do a search on "remove/wipe/delete/uninstall FireFox".

You could do it manually though, just make sure that you are viewing hidden/system folders, then delete all Mozilla(\FireFox)
folders from "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files" (don't forget both "Application Data" AND "Local Settings\Application
Data", delete the Mozilla(\FireFox) keys from HKLM and HKCU, and pretty much any other file, folder, regkey, regvalue, or regdata
that has Mozilla or FireFox in it's name.

Thanks, Alec. I went ahead and did it manually, including registry
entries using regedit.

After the clean out, a new install of Firefox was clean and, more
importantly, it worked correctly. (And I didn't screw up Thunderbird :)

Thanks again.
