How do I print one character on top of another in Word?

If, on the other hand, you are trying to get one character to _overprint_
another, click between the two. Then go to Format>Font>Character Spacing,
choose Condensed from Spacing list and adjust the spacing value as necessary.

That is just what the EQ \o field does, and much more simply.
