Don't know if this is the CORRECT way to do it. But it works for me if it's
just a couple pages document... I make a text box, type in "draft", place it
in the middle of the page, and make it a watermark, shaded so it's grey and
set it as a background... all of that can be done within the textbox
properties. If your documents is several pages, this may not be the way to
go since it only works for one page at a time. 5 pages or less I can
manually go through and do that. Anymore pages than that and I set it up as a
header!!

In Word 2002 and 2003, you can click on Format | Background |
Printed Watermark | Text Watermark | Text: draft | OK.
