I keep deleted items in my inbox. For some reason Outlook has recently
decided to automatically purge these deleted items every week or so. I never
set it to do this nor would I know how to. It has just started doing this
recently and it is driving me insane. How do I prevent Outlook from
automatically deleting items from my Inbox. My account is set up as an IMAP
account.

thanks
Dee

Ummm surely the definition of Deleted Items are items that you have
discarded because you don't need them! If you want to keep the items, don't
delete them!

Jeeeeeze!

I delete them to hide them from view. I refer back to them for a few weeks
and then archive what I want to keep.

thanks for your useless response. I guess you know nothing about Outlook.

Then set your View to UNREAD messages only. And yes, I DO know about
Outlook. Probably more than you do.

Unless you have control of the IMAP server, your ISP may be involved here.
My ISP routinely deletes ALL mail older than a few weeks from my IMAP
account. I've complained to deaf ears; they contend they need the server
space. Oddly, they allow me to create additional IMAP folders on the server
which they don't touch, so once or twice a month I have to move ALL email I
want to keep into another folder.
