IMAP setup deletes items permanently when purging

I have an IMAP account and my mails get permanently deleted when deleted
items are purged from the inbox. I want them to go to Deleted Items.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Don't think that's possible - that's how IMAP works. However, you could
create a "deleted items" folder in your IMAP folders and drag the ones you
want to delete there....
BTW, why would you want to delete an email and then KEEP it?

As a backup and in order to structure e-mails. That's how it works in all
other mail setups. The same idea as the sent items-folder.

Ummm no. That's NOT how it works AT ALL. Do you keep all your filing in the
trash can? No of course you don't. You put it in a FILE.

You don't seem to get where I'm going. So please stop responding unless you
have something useful to say.

Thanks for the suggestion reg. the new folder btw. I'll try that compromise.

I would suggest that "not keeping items you want to KEEP in the "trash can""
IS a useful suggestion - whether you get offended because someone is telling
you that that behaviour is just plain daft, is up to you...

The overstrike that you see when you click Delete IS the IMAP equivalent of
the Deleted Items folder. Clicking Edit>Purge Deleted Items is exactly the
same as emptying the Deleted Items folder. If you don't want to delete the
items then 1) don't delete them until you know you don't need them or 2)
don't purge.
