How do I organize the Start Menu??

I have searched all of the Vista discussion for Start menu and none of the
suggestions have helped.

I am the Admin, I have all hidden files and folders showing, AND I went to
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu as everyone said to.

The only thing there is an empty folder named MSN Encarta. Yes, I double
checked to make sure show all hidden files and folders is still on.

I am not trying to do anything tricky. Just organize it. Internet things
in a folder named Internet. Our daughter's Ipod, camera, phone, chat, etc.
programs in a folder under her name.

Can someone please HELP!

Thanks,
Susan

All Users would have files here, and would show in the Start Menu regardless
of the acount logged on to:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

Your daughter's Start Menu would have files here, seen in the Start Menu
when she is logged on:

C:\Users\(Your Daughter)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

Your Start Menu would have files here, seen in the Start Menu when you are
logged on:

C:\Users\(You)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

Right click on the start orb. Go to Open All Users. Then open programs. Add
new folders, drag old folders to the new folders, rename - anything you want
to do.

Then do the same for YOUR private account. Right click on Start Orb. Open
users | Programs.

Thanks but your suggestion doesn't help. I saw the Users\AppData.....
folders but very little is them. For all users there are 4 folders and 3
programs.

Bought new last Sunday this computer has a lot more than that on the Start
menu, too much. For example, for every user one of those 4 folders is
Maintenance. The only thing in it is a shortcut to Help and Support. But if
you look at it from the Start menu there is more in there, like Backup and
Restore Center.

Again, the only thing under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu is
an empty folder named MSN Encarta Plus. (There would probably be something in
the folder if I activated the free trial, or it would vanish if I uninstalled
it.)

This is a MAJOR flaw in Vista. On MY start menu I should be able to create
folders and move things to the new folder, or at least move things to
existing folders. I don't need Intel Matrix Storage device on the main All
Programs Menu. Accessories/System Tools would be better for it because it is
a System Tool.

Thanks again
Susan

Hello,

for me, there are over 30 files/folders in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs . So there must
something be anywhere hidden for you if there's so little.

YEAH!!!! Thank You Richard!!! The Open all users is working so far for
everyone from just that one place.

I created a folder named Windows
Trials then dragged and dropped the Office and Works free trial folders into
it. Then I switched users and the same changes were on my daughter and
Husband's start menu.

I will be back, I am going to shut down (not restart) and walk the dog to
clear memory before I go nuts organizing.

Fingers Crossed,
Susan

Thank you Richard!! Just Open All Users let me do what I wanted for all users
at the same time. All the Internet stuff is a folder named Internet etc.

It was empty except for that one empty folder. Once Richard said Open All
Users and edit from there, and I did, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start
Menu\Programs now looks like a folder based version of the start menu as
everything I read here said it should.

Why it wasn't there in the first place I don't know. I am glad it is fixed,
it was almost my last annoyance with Vista out of the box.

Now I can try installing software and hooking up hardware. LOL

Thanks,
Susan
