How do i open the attachments in outlook express that i receivei..

In outlook express, when i receive e-mails with attachments, I can't read
them. When I click on the attachment icon, i receive the following message:
This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action.
Create the association in the folders options control panel. I click OK.
nothing happens. It doesn't tell me HOW to do what needs to be done.
