how do I move old mail out of Outlook without losing it?

We want to save all our old Outlook messages from previous years on our
computer, but they're taking up too much space. Is there a way to move them
to another program without losing them?

Back them up to a PST and burn them to CD if you wish. The only way to open a
PST however is with Outlook, a PST is specifically an Outlook data file.

Note that any PST burned to a CD or other media will be read only. In order
to open the file, you have to copy it to the local drive, remove the read
only attribute, and then open with Outlook. Also note that with any Outlook
version prior to 2003, the PST size limit is 2 GB but the PST can become
unstable around 1.5 GB.
