how do I make sure I have windows update 5?

I don't remember installing it, but when I click windows update it goes to
v5.windowsupdate.com, and then gets stuck (ie, can't get past the page
"Checking for latest version of windows update"). If I try to get to windows
update in safe mode, I've also gotten the error 0x8007043C. I do not have
service pack 2, btw.

You should post your question to the experts in the windows update
