How do I make my G-mail account work in microsoft outlook 2007?

After following the input instructions we get a response that says "the
connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or
connected to complete this action. Then it asks for a microsoft exchange
server and mailbox."
We are stumped.

you need to set up gmail as a pop3 account, not exchange. go to control
panel, mail and edit your profile or make a new profile.

in Outlook?

Delete the apparantly by mistake added exchange account:

Control Panel | Mail | E-Mail-Accounts
