How do I make hidden status bar appear?

I know the status bar is on the page when I open MS Word because I can see a
very small portion of the status bar at the bottom of the page (on top of the
bar containing the "start" function, etc.). I have attempted, without
success, to make the staus bar fully appear by pointing and dragging.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Click the Maximize button once or twice (so that you're in the state
that allows you to resize the window), drag the very top of the window
upward so that only the bottom edge of it is visible, and you'll
probably be able to grab the lower-right corner resize box and drag
the window smaller.

But that Word would make the window bigger than the screen is odd --
is your monitor resolution set correctly in Windows?
