How do I make a "deleted" message disappear off the inbox list?

Yes, it is IMAP. And I have found one answer, it's under the View menu but
in a not-obvious place:

View | Arrange By | Current View | Hide Messages Marked for Deletion

No because that doesn't delete them, it only hides them.
To physically delete them you need to do Edit-Purge,but be aware, items
deleted like this do NOT go into a Deleted Items folder - they are
permanently deleted at once.

Click Edit>Purge Deleted Messages or change your view to "Hide Messages
Marked for Deletion"
