How do I make a database to import AOL address book to Outlook Ex.

I exported my friends AOL address book to a text file and a HTML file. Is
there a way to make this into a database I can import into Outlook Express?

If you create a comma separated values file, then I think OE will be able to
import that.

You could open your text file in excel and File|saveAs (*.csv).

I'd back up my addressbook first--just in case.

Hi Dave, I did what you said but now I have an excel worksheet with A,B,C,D
etc with one email in each letter all the way across the page. I don't think
that looks right? thank you

No, that doesn't sound right to me.

I would think that you'd have multiple columns (name, address, phone(?), etc)
but with each row representing one person's data.

If you only want to import the email addresses (no other info), you can copy
each column's data and paste it under the last one in column A. (Do this for
column B, C, and D.)

Then select columns B and right click Delete.

Now save this file as a .csv file.

(But I think I'd go back to the AOL address book and see if I could grab more
data per person first!)

Hi Dave, I will paste each email address in column A, one under the other and
save at .cvs file. I hope Outlook Express will recognize this. I seem to
remember a long time ago I had a sample database just for importing to
Outlook. Thought I had saved it but can't find it.

Inside OE, you can do:

Tools|Address book
then
File|Export|other address book, choose "text file (comma separated values)"

And then try to match your input to that output.
