How do I know if I've "patched"?

How do I tell (on my wife's Windows XP Pro laptop) if the security
patch against blast/lovsan was applied? We're not infected, but we
aren't using it unless we disconnect the wireless home network,
inconvenient to the non-XP computers.

Had trouble with catroot2 recreating itself when I run the patch
wizard.

we may have autoupdated, so my question is: how can I tell if my
system is patched??

Open the Add/Remove Programs option in Control Panel and scroll toward the
bottom where you see all your Windows updates. Look for: Windows XP
Hotfix - KB823980

If you have that entry, your patch was installed successfully

If 823980 is in the list of hotfixes, then it is installed.
