When I send out an e-mail using a Distribution List, how do I prevent the
individual names from showing in the header?

Put the addresses in the BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) field of the mail header.
If that field doesn't show while you're composing a E-mail go to the View
menu and select 'BCC Field'.

But, is there any way to have the title of the distribution list in the "To"
line of the message without showing the actual recepients? If not, how do
people usually send these out - To themselves w/a bcc to the distribution
list?

If you put the DL in the Bcc field, then what the recipient sees in the To
field is the responsibility of the receiving client. However, you can
create a contact whose name matches the DL's name (Outlook has no problem
with duplicate entries in the Contacts folder) and set its address to your
own (or you can set it to an address you know receives mail but that simply
ignores it, if you have one available). Put that contact in the To field
and the DL in the Bcc field.
