I have text in a place holder that enter upon a click into an existing slide.
I don't want this place holder to print when I print the slides.

If you are printing in b/w or grayscale, that's easy: With View - Grayscale
change to the grayscale view, a small toolbar will appear where you can
change the properties of the objects on the slide. Enable "Don't show".
This will not affect the visibility of the object during slide show and it
will be printed on a color printer.

If you need to print your slides in color, drag the placeholder off the
slide into the gray area surrounding it before printing, click Edit - Undo
or Ctrl+Z after printing.

HRainey,

What Ute said.... but also....

I believe powerpoint prints the "final state" of a slide. i.e. how the
slides looks just before you move to the next slide.
