Placeholder frustration

When I try to add a picture to a slide by clicking on the "Insert Picture"
icon in the placeholder, the picture is added in the center of the slide,
not in/with the place holder this makes the slide layout feature worthless.
Any ideas? Windows XP SP2 and Office XP.

Solved it, sort of. I replaced the check in the "Automatic layout for
inserted objects" under Tools, Auto Correct Options... and now the
placeholder acts as I expect. It seems there should be a way to be able to
take advantage of a place holder when I want, but for PP not to autoformat
objects that I insert by other methods. Again, any ideas?

Insert the picture in the placeholder by clicking the Picture icon in the
content placeholder. Of course, that means you need to use a slide layout
that uses a content placeholder, but it sounds as if you may be doing that
anyway already.
