How do I keep a canceled appointment on my calendar?

I have editor delegate priveleges for someone's calendar and want to keep
canceled meetings on their calendar. When I receive a cancellation on their
calendar and delete the message, the appointment falls off the calendar the
majority of the time. I am not selecting the "remove from calendar" option
in the cancellation notice. It seems that some stay on the calendar when I
delete and some fall off. It seems like I have to keep it in my inbox until
the date passes, which is not effective.

One method is to create another calendar and move the item to that calendar
until the date passes.
