How do I insert animated .GIF files (Assistance doesn't work)?

I have saved animated .GIF clip art (non-Office files) and need to paste it
into a PowerPoint presentation. How do I paste it and it still be animated?

Insert, picture from file, and select your animated gif would be the easiest
way

May I expand a bit on this? Using PP2K, I find that only looped GIF
animations work. Inserting a run-once animation just produces an error (red X
box). Is this a known issue with 2000? Has it been addressed in later
versions? Is it just me? thanks

I don't think that would cause the red X -- different issue probably.

For Red X see RED X instead of graphics

For how GIFs play in PPT, see

I agree with Echo. Once the animation is complete you should just see the
completed image. You might want to pull the animated GIF apart and see if it
is internal to the image
