How do I insert a check-mark or bullet dot?

All I am trying to do is:

1234 S Main * Anytown, USA 90999 * (e-mail address removed) * (901) 123-4567
With Dots instead of Astricts.
 
Insert | Symbol and select the desired bullet. I have assigned the
Ctrl+Shift+B shortcut to a commonly used bullet (small round) to facilitate
inserting them.
