I am trying to open my backup pst file but cannot reset the read-only file to
not be read-only. I went to the file properties and unchecked read-only but
get a message: unable to set the attributes for backup. Thanks for any help
with this.

You first.
How did you create this "backup?"
What attempts have you made to repair it?

Thanks for the quick response. I discovered that I had to copy the files from
my cd to my hard drive before I can remove the read only.

Sorry to hijack this post but I believe my question is the same but the
previous person's solution does not pertain to me.

I created the backup by exporting my emails (lets call them "Business"
emails) using Outlook 2003 with the "Import/Export" option under file. All
other files backed up (in the same way) imported back fine including 5 other
email folders and one contacts folder. For some reason, however, this
"Business" folder is giving me an error message which reads as follows:

Translation Error
A file error has occurred in the Comma Separated Values (Windows) translator
while initalizing a translator to build a field map.

Outlook was unable to retrieve data from the file "C:\Documents and
Seetings\Administrator\My Documents\Program Installation Files\Business.csv".
Verify that you have the correct file (it is), that you have permission to
open it (I do not know why I wouldn't), and that it is not opened in another
program (it is not).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Why on earth did you do this? Just create a copy of your pst file. Then when
you want to view it, open Outlook and go to File-Open-Outlook Data File.

Um...because I have no idea what is "pst" is let alone how to copy it or its
location.

Besides my method worked...for all the other files.

A *.pst file is the single file that holds all your local Outlook data other
than your account settings. Much easier just to make a backup copy of ONE
file from which you can access all your data!

I'll have to remember that, next time I reformat or get a new computer and
need to keep my files.

Thanks...

Still looking for help with my current issue though.
