How do I hide formatting and paragraph marks in my email messages

Does anybody know how to hide the paragraph and other formatting symbols on
the body's of my email messages. I don't know what I did, they just popped
up one day. I tried to find the answer in the help function but it tells me
to look for the paragraph (hide/show) symbol on the standard toolbar or in
the standard toolbar options and when I look I do not have an option for that
even in the customize section. Please help, I can't stand typing emails with
all of that extra junk showing!!! Thanks. Lindsey.

Not an Outlook issue. This is a Word issue. Ask in a Word newsgroup.

Are you useing Word editor, when you write emails? If yes, are you saying
that you dont have that button at all? I have it in standar toolbar, and if I
go to customize it, I have it on meny View -> Show all.

I am using the Word editor. I can't find the button at all. It is not on my
standard tool bar and when I click on toolbar options, add or remove buttons,
it is nowhere to be found.

This is a word issue even if it is affecting my emails?

You are in Word when composing the *document* that you may or may not then
send back to Outlook. You may have called Word from Outlook to compose your
e-mail using Word's template. You may have simply opened Word, composed
your document, and then used the File -> Send To menu to send the document
to Outlook. But you still in *Word* when you were composing the document.
The behaviors you note are those of Word, not Outlook. Outlook doesn't
control what you do inside of Word or how you CONFIGURE Word.

Actually I was able to fix it in Outlook, so this was the correct forum to be
asking the question in, thanks.

Lindsey,

Please include your solution with your post next time so you can help others
out who are having the same problem.

Here is the solution by the way:

Open up a new e-mail message>
Select "Tools" from the top menu >
Select "Options" from the drop down box >
Select the "View" tab >

Under the "Formatting marks" section uncheck all of the boxes. This will
remove all of the formatting marks from your message.

Thanks. Question is there not a shortcut keystroke to remove it. I get
calls from people who say they hit a series of keystrokes and it appears so
is there shortcut keys to make it disappear?

Thanks
Lynn

Jeff:
I have done all of these things and still have the formatting symbols in my
emails. I am not getting them in Word documents. I see the Paragraph symbol
in Word and can switch that off. I have tried Control/Shift/8 and that
doesn't work in Outlook for me. I have also unchecked all of the formatting
options in View on Tools/Options. I have selected Word 2003 as my email
editor - it's been that way since day 1. So why am I still seeing these
symbols in my new emails? Nothing I try seems to remove these formatting
marks from new emails and all of the requisite techniques have been
applied... Any other recommendations?
Thanks!

Dave: Did you ever figure out how to keep the formatting marks from
appearing? I'm having the same problem after trying the same fixes you tried.
