how do i have deleted and sent items shown as already read?

i use outlook 2003. i use it in connection with microsoft web based exchange.
after i delte a message from the inbox it still shows as unread in the delted
items folder. also after i reply to a message the sent message will sometimes
show as unread in the sent folder. i cannot find the settings to modify the
actions so once i read it, delete it, reply to it i would like the message to
show as read. anyone able to help??

on deleted items- normally if it's opened and marked as read, it moves to
deleted folder and remains read, but it sounds like your mail server is not
honoring the local read settings. How is the account configured? Is it using
RPC/HTTP, IMAP or HTTP (OWA)?
 
thanks for your reply. a friend set it all up for me so i do not know how to
find how the account is set up. are you able to guide me to the location to
how it is set up? i can then message you with the results. thank you so much.

hi again---i just found something in my email accounts connections tab that
says; "connect to my Exchange server using HTTP". does this help?
