How do I get Word to be Oulook editor

I use Microsoft outlook and I want Word to edit my e-mail. Only Excel and
Notepad show up in the programs edit box.
 
I don't know, how can I tell. I use Microsoft office for teachers and
students and it several years old. I just bought a new pc and down loaded
the old software on it. That is when I started having this problem.
