Column width question

I don't get full width on the screen when I open a Word document. How to I
change the settings to fill the screen?

If you're saying that your text appears not to fill the entire page:

(a) check your margin settings

(b) if you have any Comments or Tracked Changes that use balloons,
then Word leaves a big space on the right for the balloons to appear
in (even on pages with no balloons). Change the view option to Final
rather than Final Showing Markup, or set your tracking options for
none of the choices to be displayed in balloons.

If you're saying that the document's window doesn't fill the screen

(a) put your cursor on a visible edge of the window and drag it to
where you want it to be (if you drag a visible corner, it increases
both height and width) or

(b) click the middle button in the upper right of the window, nest to
the red one with the X for closing the window. The window then jumps
to fill the screen. (If you want to change the size of the window, you
have to click that same button again, and then do your dragging.)

Additional suggestions:

1. If your Word window is maximized but the document doesn't fill the
window, you can change your Zoom settings to Page Width or Margin Width (or
view the page in Web Layout view).

2. If the text in a particular document isn't spreading to fill the space
between margins, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/CleanWebText.htm
