How do I get the colors to show on my Pallet for 2003 Word ?

I have just updated to Word 2003 and the colors on my pallet to highlight
does not have any colors. How can I correct this?
 
The Highlighter palette has been limited and unsatisfactory for years; it
was not upgraded in Word 2003.
 
But it does show the dozen or so colors it offers -- is OP seeing
empty boxes, or no color boxes at all?
 
This might indicate that High Contrast has been chosen in the Accessibility
Options in Windows Control Panel.
