How do I get the "blue" areas to show up in my ruler so I can see

I am supposed to move the column markers in my assignment on the ruler, and
it doesn't show them. I made sure they were selected, but everything in my
ruler is "grey", how do I get the "blue" to turn on?

Not sure what you mean by "blue." My ruler is entirely gray, and I am able
to move all the markers.

Hi there,
thank you for responding. In my text book for Microsoft Office 2003, it says
to "notice the column markers in the blue areas". Another place earlier in
the book it also made mention of working in the blue space in the ruler.
Again, I couldn't get it to show, so I wasn't able to do the work it was
asking me to do. The margin spaces in the ruler bar show blue in the text
book. I was finally able to move the column markers, but it was difficult
making the two headed arrow show up to do it.

Are you using 2003? I think the colouring may be version-depemdent.

I agree it can be a bit fiddly selecting the element you want in the ruler
but it gets easier with practice.

Not only Word version dependent, but also Windows version dependent along
with other influencing settings (such as Themes). I believe the blue shows up
in Word XP & 2003 _if_ it is running in default Windows XP. I run 2003 in
Windows XP, but Classic theme, so my markers show up gray like Suzanne's.

I am very happy to report that "I figured it out!!" :) You were all right,
(of course) but all I had to do was right click on my desktop and change the
setting from "Classic" to XP? something. Can't remember. You can tell I'm new
at all this. Now, when I insert columns, I can tell where to move the margins
on the ruler bar. Thank you all for your help!
Have a great day!
