Sorry for cross-posting but there was no respond in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. :-(

Sometimes I need to open three or more A2002 projects at once. So I have 3
or more items in taskbar menu for main projects. When I open any object
(form, report, form's class module, report's class module, etc...) in any of
the projects I get a new item in task list. So when I open, say, 1 form and
it's class module in each project I get CHAOS in my task list - it's very
difficult to switch to a correct object in correct project; it takes some
time to decide where I want to switch because there are too many open
objects. In Win 95/98 there was only one window for each project and I could
easily switch to the "latest" object in any project. "Latest" object means
the one that I currently work with.

Is there any workaround to get rid of XP's MDI chaos? I really hate this
"feature". I think that this behaviour is common for all MDI applications.

As far as you can see there's real CHAOS!!! Grrrrrrrr.... :-(

TIA

Vlado

P.S. Pls, excuse me for my poor English... :-/

P.P.S. If you have no solution, let me know, pls: What is your opinion? What
do you think about MDI chaos?

What
do you think about MDI chaos?

Hi Vlado,

In A2002 Tools | Options... View, Show frame, uncheck "Windows in Taskbar".

It works for me, and I agree MDI is very chaotic in any application,
even with only one document open!

Use the Menu Command Tools / Options ... / View tab and uncheck the "Windows
In TaskBar" option and you are done ...

I love this kind of Microsoft thinking:

1. make a problem to solve (i.e., the MDI document interface in
Office 97 and before).

2. in the process of "solving" the made-up "problem" create worse
problems (i.e., the multiplicity of windows).

3. write something into your new operating system to work around the
problem you created in "solving" the made-up "problem" (in this
case, group application windows in the TaskBar).

When running any of the SDI versions of Office programs, I turn off
the SDI for the applications that allow it, and when running it on
WinXP, I turn off the application grouping, so that it works like
A97 on Win2K and before.

That is, so that it works in a sensible fashion without all the
complications created by the stupid move of introducing the SDI (the
only justification I can see is that web browsers worked that way;
except now they don't, because they all have tabs, because THE
SINGLE DOCUMENT INTERFACE SUCKS).

YES! It works for me, too!
Thank you very much for your respond, Smartin.

TYVM for your respond. It really works!

TYVM for your opinion, David. I'm glad I'm not the only one... ;-)

You're right. But it's quite difficult to find these little things.
