How do I get rid of lines on new, blank documents?

I don't know how I did it but all of my Word documents are now on lined
"paper". New documents start with lined pages. How do I get rid of the
lines and go back to blank pages?

On the Drawing toolbar, choose Draw | Grid and clear the check box for "Show
gridlines on screen."

I had problems with SVC's Normal.dot method but Suzanne's simple solution did
the trick - how dumb can I be?!!
