How Do I Get Rid of "Genuine Windows" Warning ?

I am running windows XP and recently on my taskbar I got an icon that
contains a message that my XP version may not be legitimate . It
suggests I purchase a copy of "Genuine Windows". Also, every time I
boot up I get a window that opens and suggests the same thing. How
do I get rid of this annoyance ? Hope someone can help. Thank you.
