How do I get rid of a strange symbol at the end of paragraphs in w

At the end of paragraphs a strange symbol looking like the pi symbol appears.
No matter which e-mail I read or write it appears and is frustrating. How
does one get rid of that symbol? thank you

It is called a pilcrow and is a toggle setting CTRL+*. If only paragraph
marks show uncheck tools > options > view > paragraph marks.
