How do I get rid of "1 unread mail message" from logon screen?

When I get to the log on screen from either startup or standby, "1 unread
mail message" is displayed each time. This is happening even though I have
checked and marked every email in Outlook 2003 as Read. How do I check which
message it is refering to, or how do I correct this?
