I want to have my XP pro pc startup without having the welcome screen show
up. I had it that way when I installed XP onto the hard drive but after
downloading some update last spring it now goes to the welcome screen and I
have to click on my name to get it started past that. I don't have a
password set for my account and I'm the only one who uses my PC so i'm the
administrator account. Is there a way to get it to forgo the welcome screen
like it used to? Thanks for your help.

In order to do what you want you need to enable automatic logging in.

1. Go to Start > Run...
2. Type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes
3. Uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer"
4. It will ask you which username you wish to log on as, and the password
for that username. Enter those, then click OK.
5. Click OK in the main window and you are done.

Another source of this problem is Windows requiring you to log back on after
you Hibernate the computer, put the computer in Standby mode, or just get
out of the screensaver.

1. In Control Panel, click the Power icon.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Uncheck "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby"

1. Right-click the desktop and click Properties, or double-click the Display
icon in Control Panel
2. Click the "Screen Saver" tab.
3. Uncheck "On resume, password protect"
