how do I get my different office documents to show up as office do

I updated my computer and now have windows XP Home ed - I installed my old
Office XP suite - and now my different docs (Word, Excell, and Powerpoint)
show up either as Text Notepad, or generic windows documents - how do I get
them to show up as the different office docs???
 
Try recreating the file associations for the applications. Go to
Start/Run and run the following for each Office application you have
installed:

winword /r
excel /regserver
powerpnt /regserver
msaccess /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.
