how do I get jpegs to show in word 2003, it just shows a blank table

In Tools > Options > View, check "Drawings" and uncheck "Picture
placeholders".

If that doesn't help, try reducing the hardware acceleration setting
at Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot. And
if turning down the acceleration does help, look for an update for
your video card's driver.
