How do I get a working Outlook.fav file after reinstallation?

Win XP Pro trashed and I reinstalled it. I then copied many files from the
separate hard disk back up and reinstalled Office XP Pro.

I have managed to get Outlook working more or less but I get endless
warnings that the Outlook.fav file is faulty and that the program is
revertinf to the basic configuration. The warning also states that I(despite
being an Adminustrator!) do do have permission to change permissions.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

find and delete the fav file (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook). Without knowing more about the permissions error -
when you get it etc - we can only guess at what might be wrong.

when I start Outlook that it is recreating the defauly shortcuts.

if you are getting it when you try to open C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook using windows explorer,
the folder has permission for your old windows user account, not the new
one. When signed in with an admin account right click on the username folder
and got to security (or properties) and take ownership - you'll probably
need to add your user account to the list of accounts at the top and give it
full permission then click advanced and take ownership on the owner tab.

This might fix all of your problems without the need to delete the fav
file - but if you still have problems after doing this, post back.

Hi

I tried that but Outlook still puts up load of error messages and won't
allow me to do it.

Also, now that I can get into the relevant folder therre is NO .fav file in
there!

I am running Outlook Xp (2002) with SP3

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for you assistance.

Hi Again,

When I went back to check the permission Win XP Pro had reverted them and I
could not access the relevent folder. I had to change the permissions
manually AGAIN. So, it's not holding permission changes either.
