how do i gain access to the e-mail on my desktop from my laptop

I have a desktop with e-mail that I would like to retrieve from my new laptop
but I cannot seem to do it. I assume it can be done but I do not know how.
Also when I first got my laptop I entered the wrong server details (pop3 ,
smtp etc) so now if i try to send e-mail from my laptop i cannot as the
fields are incorrect. how do i change them back. Please help. thank you.

What email program do you use on the desktop?
