How do I flash a number on the screen during a presentation

During our church services | would like to be able to initiate a "parent
call". Briefly, when someone checks their children into the nursery we give
them a number. If there is an issue that requires the parents attention, I
can flash that number onto the corner of the screen without interrupting the
service or the presentation that is under way. I am using PPT 2003 and XP,
thanks

There's the hi-tech way and the lo-tech way.

The lo-tech way:

Find an old slide projector. There have to be zillions of them around.
Somebody in the church must have one.

Make up slides with black backgrounds and numbers in white (or color if you
like). Number 1 goes in slot 1 in the tray and so on.

Parent call: move the tray to the number you need, turn on the projector.

The hi-tech way:

Beats me. ;-)

The hi tech way!(I think)

You'll need to open the "control toolbox" from toolbars in the view menu.
Select "control textbox" it has an "ab" icon. Drag a square in the corner of
the screen about 1/8 of the screen maybe. it will mask the presentation so
choose a blank bit of screen. Now right click to get properties and change
the font to a fairly large size and if you wish the background colour to
match the presentation. Now during the presentation this shape can be
clicked and a number entered from the keyboard.

Sound complicated but not really!

Nice one ...
You'd have to do that for each presentation, but that wouldn't be so horrible.

Thanks!
