I bought a lenovo laptop 8 months ago which came bundled with XP.I do not
remember if i had activated it and registered it the first time i used it.Now
i would like to know how to find out out if it is activated and
registered.
Factory-installed OEM operating systems are typically either
pre-activated at the factory or are BIOS-locked and do not require
activation so long as they're installed on the computer with which
they're sold.
The OS will let you know, with frequent (several times a day)
reminders, if you do need to activate. To check for yourself, Start >
All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows.
Alternatively, Start > Run > "C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A."
It will probably tell you that WinXP has already been activated.
Registration is *always* optional, provides very little benefit to
owners of retail licenses, and no benefit to owners of OEM licenses, so
you needn't worry about it.
However, if you still wish to register, simply click Start > Run >
regwiz /r.
Where do i use the windows product key(i dont remember using it
anywhere)?I am a beginner to computers and stuff so please help me out in
this...Thanks in advance.
You would use the Product Key *only* while re-installing the operating
system, and maybe not even then, depending upon how Lenovo have
configured their Recovery CD.
