How do I finalize a CD write?

I have XP home version. I have written a session to a CD (a backup up some
data files). I want to finalize the CD so no more data can be written to it.
I took it to my laptop (also XP home edition) to be sure I could read it and
it says disk not ready. I am assuming this is because the CD is not
finalized. I am just using the XP supplied software for the copy (to temp
file and then to the CD), but can't find anywhere that it lets me or shows me
how to finalize the CD......Please help!!

Thanks,
Musicmom

Hi Musicmom,

You'll probably have to add another session to the cd and click the finalize
disc option before you start the burn. I don't use the XP burning software
but I'm sure it's the same as the commercial products. I don't think
there's another way to finalize it.

I can't find a place to set finalize. Have looked everywhere I can think
of....ideas on how to set it before the burn of the next session?

I'm trying to remember this from memory so I may not be accurate. I think after you select your files to be burned, it's the next screen. It should be an option to "close disc" so it won't say finalize.
I'm at work now so I can't verify that because I'm on a Win2k system.

I suggest you use another program to burn your discs. There are a couple free ones such as CDBurnerXP Pro and DeepBurner that work excellent.

Many newsgroups forbid Rich Text (HTML). You should post in Plain Text.

Ok - sorry I didn't know that.

That is alright, some people just get plain rude about it. I thought I would
give you the heads up. :)

While this may be true for "many newsgroups", it is not true for the
newsgroups delivered by msnews.microsoft.com. If he wants to post in HTML,
leave him alone.

To the original poster:
It is not possible as far as I know to finalize a CD which was created using
XP's CD writing software. To finalize a CD, you must create the CD using a
third-party CD writer such as Nero.

Thanks for the info! I'll use something else.
