How do I ENABLE pop-ups, I can't log on to our corporate website w/o it

P

PeterM

I was shocked when I called our corporate HQ's and found out that I had
to turn ON or ENABLE pop-up's in order to get the next page of a menu
selection. So I remembered that I had a Google pop-up preventer, I
turned that back on to allow pop-up's, but it still didn't work. Now I
think I must have turned it off some place else, but I can't remember
where. I'm using Win XP Pro with all updates, and OE 6

Hi,

The above issue can occur, if you have not enabled Activex scripts or jave
scripts.
Try enabling the scripts in IE by following the steps given below:

1.Open IE and click Tools and select Internet Options.
2.Click Security and click Custom level.
3.Scroll down the tab and enable all the options under "Activex control
and plugins".
4.Also enable the options under "Java VM" in the scroll list.
5.Click Ok.

Now try accessing your company's website.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so very much, I have a good feeling about this already. I'm still
at home but will be at work soon. I will get back...............Peter

Well, unfortunately it still doesn't allow me to get to the page I need
to get to. Every computer on our network has no problems, only my
laptop. I went to the area you told me to go to, I even clicked on every
icon there under security, like "trusted sites", "trusted sites", and
"Internet" changed all the items you mentioned to change. Just to let
you know, I have the Google address-bar, but I turned of the pop-up
blocking. I don't have anything like ZoneAlarm or anything like that,
but I have whatever Win XP Pro does with something like zone alarm, and
turned it on. I can't think about what they call it, I think something
like a Firewall. Will that screw me up? I wouldn't know how to turn that
off BTW. Anyway, if you have any other suggestions, please let me know,
I appreciate you a lot for the help...........Peter

I have the Google address-bar, but I turned of the pop-up blocking.

Others with similar symptoms to yours (unable to view certain sites)
have reported it was necessary to uninstall this utility. You may be
able to reinstall it later and still be able to view the problem sites.

Good luck

Thank you Robert for the advise, I can't figure out how to uninstall the
Google Bar. I do have it at home on my desktop, and I can log on to
corporate from there. I compared all my Tools>Security settings, to make
sure they are the same as well............peter

Also, how do I turn off the firewall on my Laptop, it just uses whatever
Win XP Pro has, I don't have ZoneAlarm on my Laptop. Believe it or not,
to the above thread, I do have ZoneAlarm, and I can get to
corporate..........Peter

I just uninstalled the Google addressbar, rebooted and still have a problem
getting to the page on the corporate site. For some reason I'm the only
person, with my Laptop, that can't get on that damn page. Any other
suggestions will be much appreciated..........Peter

can't get on that damn page.

The only hint about what you are doing that you have given us is that
the is a popup associated with it. What protocol prefix does it have?
Are there other pages at that site that you can access?

Is it using Macromedia Flash? Scripting? In case any of those things
are used in the page and you are reaching it but just not rendering it
try changing all of your Security settings to Prompt where possible
(e.g. doubleclick on the security zone icon in the status bar, click on
Custom Level..., then type P and press spacebar all the way down
the list.) Assuming you trust whatever that page may try to do you can
then experiment with the Prompts by answering Yes or No as you like.
To undo the prompting click on Default Level.

Please report your observations from these experiments in detail.
Remember, your words have to substitute for what our eyes might notice.

Good luck

Robert

I'm sorry Robert, I'm not too good about describing things like that.
The only reason I mentioned Pop_up is because "corporate" said that I
had to have them enabled, but that didn't work either. I Checked every
setting for the computer at home and one more at work, to make sure that
the settings are the same. They are. I'm not sure about Macromedia
Flash, I mean if I have it............Peter

That's not important. It's just a guess of what the implementation of your
"popups" might be and why you might not see it. What is important is
to answer my other questions or try the test using prompts.

Good luck
