I reset the max size in Powerpoint for a linked file to 10 megs and i
inserted a 3.5 meg mp3 file, hoping to embed it, but it still seems to be
linked. if i delete the file from my disk it no longer will play in the
presentation. what's up?

Only WAV files are embedded; all others are linked.

I sure wish that that dialog said "Embed WAV files smaller than XXX kb"
instead of "link sound files greater than XXX kb." It's sure backwards and
incomplete, isn't it?

Only WAV files will embed. All other multimedia file types will be linked.

I believe life is meant to be lived. But:
if we live without making a difference, it makes no difference that we lived

That is because only WAV files are embedded. All other audio files and all
video files are linked.
