File size of embedded .wav file

I have read throught he other posts and did not see this specifically
addressed. I have a student who is trying to create a presentation similar
to ones he has received in emails showing photos and playing a song
throughout the presentation. He wants to be able to email as a single file.
We figured out that the song has to be a .wav file and converted it from an
mp3. The problem is that the .wav file is over 40 meg which is way too large
to email. I tried a different converter that allowed me to choose the
quality and I was able to get it down to just over 20 meg. This is still too
large. I read through the FAQ on how to decrease presentation size, but I
did not see this subject addressed (it seemed to mostly address graphic
files). We have seen presentations as small as 3 or 4 meg that have multiple
photos and an embedded sound file. How is it possible that these other
presentations are so small and ours is so large? Are they playing a small
sound bit over and over? In order to have a single file to email that is a
reasonable size, is my only option to create an executable?

I assume this is monitored by MS developers, so please add ability to embed
mp3s becuase something that should be rather simple is quite cumbersome.
